LISA KNELLER
Job title: University counselor, Colangelo College of Business
Job location: 27th Avenue
What attracted you to GCU? Both of my kids graduated from GCU … one received a master's in Licensed Professional Counseling; the other received a B.A. in Digital Film. Also, I really value higher education. I love the idea that I might have a part in helping someone grow into his/her best self.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I play "Heads Up" with my kids anytime we’re together. Also, I enjoy going out for dinner with my friends/family. My husband and I spend a lot of time in Strawberry, Ariz., our home away from home.
What are you passionate about? Yoga. I have taught yoga for more than 14 years and love sharing this practice with others.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? My favorite restaurant is Z'Tejas. I go there as often as I can. I plan to start attending more arts-related events, such as the symphony and the theatre.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I can stand on my hands and my head!
What are you most proud of? Being a great mother and seeing my children hold the values instilled in them while growing up. They are fun and intelligent and have good hearts. They enjoy being around me, which could say something about the relationship we’ve built over the years. I am truly blessed.

JENNA HEFFRON
Job title: Student services counselor
Job location: Main campus, Building 30
What attracted you to GCU? I have always wanted to work in higher education and hope to someday teach at the college level, so this job seemed like a great opportunity to get experience working with students and understanding some of the challenges they may face. Also, at my previous employer, we had a great relationship with GCU and held some of our events on campus. That enabled me to experience the positive atmosphere here.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I really enjoy being crafty – scrapbooking, sewing, painting, etc. I wouldn’t say I’m extraordinarily great at any of those things, but I just like to get lost in the process and forget about some of the “real life” things that may be weighing on me.
What are you passionate about? I’m extremely passionate about engaging and empowering our youth so that they are courageous enough to voice what they believe in and institute change. I previously worked for Girl Scouts (yes, it’s about more than Thin Mints), and it was such a rewarding experience to see young women recognize their capabilities and truly believe that their dreams are achievable.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love going to Diamondbacks games. My mom has worked for the Suns and Diamondbacks for more 20 years, so I’ve always bled PURPLE!
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Most people don’t know that I have tattoos. People are often shocked to find out that I have tattoos because they say I’m just "so sweet and innocent." Sweet people like art, too!
What are you most proud of? Completing my master’s degree recently. It definitely was not easy, but I’m proud that I stuck with it and finished!
