Antelope Intros: Kerry Stream, Michael McCamy and Raquel Wilson

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

KERRY STREAM

Job title: Administrative assistant, College of Humanities and Social Sciences

Job location: Main campus

What attracted you to GCU? I love what GCU represents and upholds in its mission statement. Besides, I love purple and I love college students. So it just made sense.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to play games with my 5-year-old grandson, Jackson, float in our backyard pool with my 2-year-old grandson, Carter, and go on movie dates with my husband of 30 years, Michael. I knew Michael was a keeper when he and I were dating and we saw the movie "Tootsie" — afterward, Michael did a perfect imitation of how Dustin Hoffman depicted "Dorothy Michaels," and I couldn't stop laughing.

What are you passionate about? My family. I have a wonderful husband, four kids (three girls and a boy, ages 15-28) and two grandchildren whom I enjoy immensely.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Staycations at the Montelucia Resort in Paradise Valley and the Hyatt in Scottsdale,  hiking Camelback Mountain, eating anything at La Grande Orange and fishing at Bartlett Lake with our son.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I grew up within walking distance of the ocean in Pismo Beach, and my husband and I actually lived right on the ocean for two years. We managed the Edgewater Inn & Suites in Pismo Beach and could listen to the waves crashing from our living room couch. We enjoyed walking our little black cocker spaniel along the shore every evening as the sun went down.

What are you most proud of? My kids! They are the funniest and most entertaining individuals I’ve ever known.

MICHAEL McCAMY

Job title: Online full-time mathematics faculty

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? Its recent growth and the possibility of personal career growth.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Exercise. I work out every week day in the Peoria gym with two co-workers. We have a great time competing with each other.

What are you passionate about? Science and mathematics.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? My favorite places in the Valley are Chase Field and Tempe Town Lake. I really like the art festival on Mill Avenue in Tempe.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have a lot of expertise in neuroscience, in particular visual/computational neuroscience. In fact, I have 11 peer-reviewed publications in the field of neuroscience and just got a paper accepted in The Journal of Physiology. Most people would not think that my research would focus on neuroscience because I have a Ph.D. in mathematics, but the brain is a computational powerhouse and the best way to uncover how powerfully the brain functions is by using mathematics.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of the education I obtained. I was the first in my immediate family to obtain a bachelor’s degree, let alone a Ph.D.

RAQUEL WILSON

Job title: Student services adviser

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? The unique Christian heritage sets this school apart from the rest, and I also am a student here for the same reason.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to shop, travel, go to the movies, eat good food and spend time with my family. I love to go to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon to escape from the heat in the summer and enjoy some colder weather in the winter. I like to explore the different tourist areas of Flagstaff and love playing in the snow with my family while we are there.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about education and being the best person I can be for God, myself and my family. I strive for excellence in all that I do and do not settle for mediocrity.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love hanging out in Tempe Marketplace and Biltmore Fashion Park and like to go downtown in the cooler months. I also like to get away from the Valley heat, especially to California and Washington state. Disneyland is my favorite place to visit in California, and I love the entire Seattle area, especially Pike Place Market.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I love to sing and grew up doing it in church.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my accomplishments as a student, especially since I will be the first in my family to earn a master’s degree.
