Antelope Intros: Kendall Hackney and Kathy Britton

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

KENDALL HACKNEY

Job title: Director of women’s basketball operations

Job location: Main campus, Kaibab

What attracted you to GCU? I love that GCU is a Christian university that is striving to be a beacon of light in this city, not only to improve the school itself but also the community it is in. The community, the growth and the potential for this University and the impact it will have attracted me to GCU.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? For fun, I enjoy playing pickup sports such as basketball and sand volleyball. I love to get together with friends, and I look forward to exploring the beautiful landscape that Arizona has to offer. I also enjoy music — I love to listen to it, play it or sing to it.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about my faith in Jesus Christ and His never-ending grace. I love college athletics. I loved being a college athlete, and it is a privilege to have the opportunity to be on the other side of it and to be able to encourage athletes in this formative time in their lives. I am passionate about people and sharing life with others.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I’m pretty new here, so I don’t know what my favorite places or events in the Valley are just yet. But I do love those gorgeous Phoenix sunsets.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Most people here don’t know that I was named Miss Ohio Basketball in 2009, my senior year of high school.

What are you most proud of? I am really proud of the fact that my high school teammates and I won four straight state basketball state championships in Ohio. After competing for the women’s basketball team at Northwestern University, I am proud to be working in women’s college basketball for GCU and to serve the University and these athletes in a new way.

KATHY BRITTON

Job title: Counseling program manager

Job location: Main campus, Building 16

What attracted you to GCU? I love the campus. Being in the midst of students is wonderful.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Traveling and camping. My husband, Ron, and I are building a teardrop trailer to be able to camp year-round. We have a history of backpacking and exploring the less traveled spaces, mostly in Arizona and some in Colorado.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about human rights and feminism.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Dinner and a movie at the Studio Movie Grill is a great date night. I have a love for jazz and blues, and my husband and I love to dance at a place called “Char’s Has The Blues.” We are constantly looking for new venues to hear live music.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I am a twin — my twin lives in Prescott, and we are not identical. But I grew up being referred to as a collective “the girls” because of my multiplicity at birth. I believe this is part of the reason I ended up in the field of psychology and counseling.

What are you most proud of? My five children and five grandchildren. Of my children, four are girls and one is a boy. Of my grandchildren, four are girls and one is a boy.
