Antelope Intros: Kelsey Jahntz and Kyle Subbert

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

KELSEY JAHNTZ

Job title: Communications specialist, Office of Strategic Educational Alliances

Job location: Building 23, main campus

What attracted you to GCU? Coming from a high-stress, high-pressure environment, I was looking for a change of atmosphere that would allow me to grow both professionally and personally. I wanted to be part of something exciting and inspiring, and GCU really stood out as a place to be, especially with its Christian values and focus on community.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love doing anything with my family. My husband and I like to camp and fish, but we haven’t been in awhile because of the birth of our 4½-month-old daughter, Reagan. Now we just love to play with her and explore the world all over again through her eyes.

What are you passionate about? Let’s see … in no particular order, public service, politics, food, education and spending time outdoors. I also believe very strongly in the power of kindness and treating others the way you would like to be treated.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? There are probably too many to list, but a few of the top ones are the Arizona Science Center, the Phoenix Zoo, Cibo and Glendale Glitters.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  I spent three years staffing and traveling with Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer. During that time, I had many unique experiences and met a lot of very important people, but none as important as the man who became my husband.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my wonderful family. My husband and my beautiful daughter are the greatest blessings in my life.

KYLE SUBBERT

Job title: Talent acquisition specialist

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? It has an awesome reputation in the community and, simply put, does things the right way. As a recruiter, this makes my job a lot easier when speaking with candidates because I believe in the product. I’m thankful for the opportunity here and take a lot of pride in telling people I work at GCU.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I live in north Phoenix near a lot of mountain bike trails, so I like to get out and ride on the weekends. I’m an avid golfer and take full advantage of all the great courses Arizona has to offer. I also enjoy working on projects around the house and yard.

What are you passionate about? Family, friends, my career, golf and college football.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I enjoy attending sporting events for any of the local teams. As a golf nut I never miss the Phoenix Open and have been going for more than 20 years. I am one of the few people who actually go to watch golf.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I grew up in a small town in Iowa – go, Hawkeyes! I had both of my parents as teachers in junior high and also have a brother and sister who went on to become teachers. I think my mom was more excited than I was when I told her I got a job at GCU. I also coached two of Brian Mueller’s sons on the Red Mountain High School golf team.

What are you most proud of? My daughters – Kayla, 14, and Alexa, 12. They are both amazing, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.
