Antelope Intros: Karen Vail-Roebuck and Allen Martello

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

KAREN VAIL-ROEBUCK

Karen Vail-Roebuck

Job title: University development manager

Job location: Nevada and southern Utah

What attracted you to GCU?  I have been referring my nurses to GCU for years. I absolutely loved what the University had to offer my students. When the opportunity came for me to apply for a UDM position, the job description fit me to the T. I found my home! I found my purpose!

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Vacations are a must in my household. I love to travel and have passed that passion on to my children. My favorite place to date is Africa, hands down.

What are you passionate about? My faith, the beach, traveling, my Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Lakers and USC Trojans.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I am a huge sports girl, so I love to go to University of Phoenix Stadium to watch a good football game.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  Thunder and lightning scares me. I do not like coffee, seafood or brussels sprouts.

What are you most proud of? My two children, my education and my drive to keep moving forward.

ALLEN MARTELLO

(From left) New University development counselors Michael Crowshaw, Allen Martello and Anna Jordan hiked to the top of Camelback Mountain to give Santa a Lopes Up.

Job title: University development counselor

Job location: Pittsburgh

What attracted you to GCU? Being able to help others reach their personal and professional goals, all while making my community a better place. Oh, and I love purple!

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Movies, hiking, traveling, trying new food or just spending time with awesome people.

What are you passionate about? Being kind to everyone, having fun and Chick-fil-A. It is literally the most delicious food you will ever eat.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? While in Arizona for training a few of us hiked Camelback Mountain (see photo), and I loved it! I can’t wait to do it again.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I publicly denounce eating vegetables. But, secretly, I love broccoli and roasted cauliflower.

What are you most proud of? The life I have built, the love I have, and the awesome friends I have made along the way.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
