GRACE WOODRUFF

What attracted you to GCU? I have been with GCU for three years as a student. I originally was intrigued because it was an affordable, private Christian university. When I saw pictures of the school, I thought it was incredibly beautiful. I visited with Discover GCU and felt a strong sense of community. I felt confident that I could make GCU my home rather than just my school. The people at GCU are kind, welcoming and unique. I served as an RA for two years, and I am so excited to continue to serve as an SSC.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I am extremely adventurous. I love traveling or taking day trips to places in the area. I was a part of the Lopes Outdoor Club and went camping, hiking, canyoneering, caving, skydiving and more. My happy place is without a doubt the outdoors!
What are you passionate about? One of my biggest passions is working with children who have disabilities. I quickly have realized that they teach me more than I could ever teach them because of their joy for life.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? There are too many amazing places in this area! I love visiting Sedona, Flagstaff, Lake Pleasant and Cottonwood. One of my favorite things was tubing down the Salt River last year.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I had a Southern accent when I was a child because I was born in Mississippi. I lost it over time but wish I still had it.
What are you most proud of? I am proud of my work ethic. When I have a mission, I tirelessly will take action to get something done.

Job title: University development counselor
Job location: Tulsa, Okla.
What attracted you to GCU? Its Christian atmosphere with a wide variety of programs to offer. Specifically, the College of Education excelled in my mindset of showing an accessible program in so many different emphasis areas for learners.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I have been blessed to play and coach volleyball for more than 15 years. My first career was as a collegiate volleyball coach at Northeastern Oklahoma College. I currently help out with surrounding athletes in the Tulsa Area and coach for a club volleyball affiliation.
What are you passionate about? Family. I've been married for three years to my soulmate, Caitlin, and we have two beautiful children. Beckett is 2 and Meyer Rose is 6 weeks old. Beckett enjoys anything sharks and minions, while Meyer Rose thankfully enjoys sleeping.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love to go to any Diamondbacks game. My first game was at the new development counselor training session. I love the tot dog.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I like to challenge others to toe-touch competitions – like a cheerleading toe touch in the air. It's a random icebreaker and my goofy side of life.
What are you most proud of? Being called “Daddy.”
