Antelope Intros: Chandler Myers and Eric Reed

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

Chandler Myers

CHANDLER MYERS

Job title: Field experience counselor, College of Nursing and Health Care Professions

Job location: 27th Avenue

What attracted you to GCU? I am an alumna and absolutely love the atmosphere here! GCU is so inviting and very involved with the students and the community.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love the outdoors. I am an AZ native and live for the heat. Hiking is one of my favorite things. I just backpacked the Grand Canyon last fall. It should be on everyone’s bucket list; you wouldn’t even think you’re in AZ once you got down there.

What are you passionate about? People! We are interesting human beings, and I enjoy getting to know new people. We rely on one another for a lot, and we can build one another up in so many positive ways. I think it is important to help others in need – we are all here for a purpose.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I enjoy the downtown Phoenix area. Great food/restaurants, good music and fun activities.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: My name did not come from the TV show "Friends." I am named from a character in the movie “The Prince of Tides.” But my nickname is Bing.

What are you most proud of? Graduating with my bachelor's and having such a supportive family.

ERIC REED

Job title: Police officer

Job location: Main campus

What attracted you to GCU? One of my former officers who worked for me at Department of Revenue informed me of the position. I have passed by this location all the time in my 40 years of law enforcement for the City of Phoenix and with the Department of Revenue.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Riding my motorcycle and working out at the gym.

What are you passionate about? Learning all I can about Buffalo Soldier history from 1866 to 1948.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Motorcycle events and antique stores looking for historical items to add to my collection.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Because of my passion for Buffalo Soldier history, I have an extensive collection of items I have acquired or made depicting the history, including 15 life-size mannequins (two of them women) in full uniform from 1866 to 1948. I like giving talks and showing off my collection talking to school kids about what you can accomplish when someone says you cannot. No one tries harder than a person who has something to prove.

What are you most proud of? My collection.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
