Antelope Intros: Brittany Dickerson and Shelly Schrimpf

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

BRITTANY DICKERSON

Job title: Enrollment counselor, College of Education

Job location: Tempe

What attracted you to GCU? Its warm culture and outstanding reputation. Almost 20 years ago my cousin attended nursing school here, and she has spoken highly of it ever since. Seven years ago my brother started his career at GCU, and he has had such a positive experience that when I decided to get my master’s degree I had my heart set on GCU. Shortly after I enrolled my mom started teaching here, and I decided I should join the Lope family both educationally and occupationally. And now here I am.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? The people in my life are my hobbies. I enjoy spending time with my husband, our son, our dogs and our family and friends. I love sports and kayaking and I also love music. Once my 4-month-old son, Brody, is old enough, my husband and I will venture out to more concerts and sporting events.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about people, education and psychology. You wouldn’t think psychology when you learn I have a background in nutrition and now my MBA, but psychology always has come naturally to me. I really love helping people reach their goals, whether it is nutritionally, physically, spiritually, mentally or all of the above.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I am an Arizona native, and my favorite place in the state is definitely Sedona. My husband and I have made it a habit to visit once a year, and I hope to keep that as a family tradition.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Although I have a background in nutrition, I will do anything for some sort of fried potatoes or chocolate. Everything is OK in moderation.

What are you most proud of? My son and my husband, Richard. I am so blessed to have them in my life and amazed by the two of them every single day. They are the loves of my life.

SHELLY SCHRIMPF

Job title: Lope Shops operations manager

Job location: Main campus

What attracted you to GCU? I was attracted to GCU by the vision for growth, commitment to community, and most of all the openness of faith by faculty, staff and students.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I like to hang out in my pool, go to dinner with friends and Skype with my grandchildren.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about my family and my Precept Ministries Bible studies.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love to go to Suns games and Arizona Rattlers games. I love sports, and I get all the sports I need here in Phoenix.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I used to work at Epcot Center in Orlando driving the big trams in the parking lot.

What are you most proud of? My family. It’s been 27 years and I still am married to my high school sweetheart. We have two amazing children who love the Lord, and I have two adorable grandbabies. I am blessed.

Bible Verse

"All things have been committed to Me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:27-28)
