Antelope Intros: Beverly Hurley, Cory Strouth and James Stocker

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

BEVERLY HURLEY

Job title: Director of Academic Alliances

Job location:
Building 18

What attracted you to GCU? I love the mission of the University, the overall Christian atmosphere and the exciting direction in which GCU is moving.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to spend time with my daughter, son-in-law and my wonderful three grandsons who live in Peoria. I also enjoy swimming, reading, spending time at the ocean and traveling.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about my family, followed by helping to provide any needed, meaningful assistance to administrators and teachers at the site level where they so profoundly impact the lives of our youth on a daily basis.

What are your favorite places in the Valley that you like to visit? I love to go to the Wildlife World Zoo and the Phoenix Zoo, ASU Gammage and GCU theater productions, Glendale Glitters, the annual West Valley Fine Arts Diamond Ball, many fabulous restaurants and shopping venues, and any sporting events. I especially love taking my grandsons to D-backs games and to their daddy's football games.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know: When I was in elementary school in Marfa, Texas, the movie "Giant," was being filmed there. I met James Dean, Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor because my father, as a second job, was a lifeguard at the local country club where the actors and crew hung out in between shots. When the movie premiered, the whole school got to go to the theatre to watch the finished product.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my daughter, Caitlin Filleman, and son-in-law, Danny Filleman, who are both educators in Arizona, and my grandsons, Jace, Cade and Trae.

 JAMES STOCKER

Job title: Teacher Education Specialist

What attracted you to GCU? I originally was attracted as a student because it's a Christian university. I enjoyed my position as a student worker and followed it to full-time employment.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know: I cry easily when watching movies.

Bible Verse

All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. (Hebrews 11:13)
