Antelope Intros: Andrew Loewen

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

ANDREW "DREW" LOEWEN

Andrew Loewen

Job title: University counselor, Colangelo College of Business

Job location: 27th Avenue

What attracted you to GCU? Being a student at GCU was one of the best things I did for myself. I loved every moment of it, and getting to share that excitement with others is great. On our first day of training, President Brian Mueller shared his vision for the school, and it gave me goosebumps. What we are doing as a university for our students and the surrounding community is incredibly inspiring, and I’m honored to say I get to be a part of it.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I create things. Mostly, I write songs, poems and stories. I also hike and ride my bike around Tempe.

What are you passionate about? I’m passionate about the church. Specifically, I’d like to see a greater move toward church unity. Different denominations may not agree on specific theological issues, but we mostly all agree on the essentials. We all love Jesus, so why can’t we share that love together through prayer and service?

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love being outdoors and hiking Camelback Mountain or anywhere up near Flagstaff. During the week, I can be found riding around Tempe on my bike to coffee shops, around the lake and near Papago Park.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I was born completely cross-eyed and had to have corrective surgery at 2 years old. Sometimes, if I’m tired, my eye gets lazy. It’s pretty funny.

What are you most proud of? I graduated with a dual degree in Christian Studies and English Literature. It was a lot of hard work, and I can hardly believe that I actually pulled it off. It was challenging, and I learned a lot about my strengths as well as my limitations as a person.
