Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.
ALAN BOELTER
Job title: Student conduct coordinator
Job location: Main campus
What attracted you to GCU? I was attracted to GCU by the people and the growth. I have been in the Valley for 12 years and have seen GCU turn into a school like I went to, Liberty University. It was also attractive to become a part of the events held at GCU, such as basketball games, concerts and Tales From the Dugout.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? My outlet is baseball-card collecting. My son and I do it together and we love going to auctions or shows around the Valley.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about kids and their relationship with Christ. I love to work with young people and see their commitment and growth as they learn more about the person of Christ. I have worked in the school system for more than 20 years, and to see students I have worked with be productive members of a local church, to see them be husbands and wives, moms and dads growing another generation for Christ, is exciting.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love spring training games and when the baseball teams are here. I love watching my children play sports and hanging out with family.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: People probably don’t know that my wife and I are foster parents and have seen God use that to bring us closer to Him and other kids.
What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my children, Marissa and Tyler. Marissa is in college at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill., and Tyler is in high school. He overcame open heart surgery when he was 12. His experience and drive to serve Christ is an inspiration to all in our family.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I go sidearm target shooting with family and friends at Ben Avery Shooting Range, and I crochet caps, wraps and quilts for charity through various church and foster agencies.
What are you passionate about? My relationship with God. I cannot make it through the day without depending on His promises.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert, Herberger Theater Center, Glendale Glitters, Glendale Chocolate Affaire, Welcome Back Buzzards Day at Boyce Thompson Arboretum near Superior and the Desert Botanical Garden.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: My ancestors include the Brothers Grimm, President Grover Cleveland and Catherine O'Leary (whose cow reportedly started the Great Chicago Fire).
What are you most proud of? That my family loves me and is proud of me.

CHRIS GAY
Job title: Regional admissions representative
Job location: Los Angeles
What attracted you to GCU? I was seeking a growing institution and GCU is just that. It was a huge plus to be a part of an organization where I did not have to silence (or not speak of) my spiritual beliefs because of institutional policy. I could not, and have been very fortunate to not have to, work somewhere where I didn’t believe in what they were doing.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Writing and acting. They allow me to express myself in ways uncensored/unrestricted.
What are you passionate about? My family, and being all I was designed to become and fulfill.
What are your favorite places or events that you like to visit? I love a good poetry lounge.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I went toe-to-toe with a three-time world champion sumo wrestler in the ring … and ALMOST won. Yeah, I know almost does not count, but for me it does because it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I also have video proof!
What are you most proud of? It does my heart good when someone tells me I have made their life better. But if you want the bragging answer, it was being ranked in the top 10 in the nation in public speaking.
