AARON THURBER
Job title: Field experience counselor
Job location: 27th Avenue
What attracted you to GCU? I’m a former student-athlete (short sprinter on the track team) and a former assistant sprint coach for GCU. I graduated in April 2016.
What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I used to run for fun until I got into college, so now I would say that just being with my friends and family is always fun.
What are you passionate about? I’m passionate about making a difference. I've always tried to encourage the people around me by helping them with certain things or just by simply listening/talking to them. I want to one day do something that can greatly impact the people around me. Making a difference in the future will involve reconnecting despite modern technology — it's so easy to get in touch with someone, and yet, to me, there is such a disconnection among people.
What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I love going to downtown Phoenix and seeing the historic buildings, going to basketball and baseball games.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: My uncle, James Thurber, was a famous author for the New Yorker and had his book, "Secret Life of Walter Mitty," turned into a movie with Ben Stiller.
What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of my accomplishments I made as a student-athlete. When I ran track my fastest dash times were 6.71 for 60 meters, 10.34 for 100 and 21.16 for 200.
