In concluding Grand Canyon University's yearlong Chapel theme based on the Sermon on the Mount – “the greatest message that was ever delivered” by Jesus – University Pastor Dr. Tim Griffin cited Matthew 5:7-24.

In it, Jesus says that everyone who puts His words into practice is a wise man who built his house on the rock because of its foundation. But those who hear those words but don't put them into practice is foolish, as evidenced by their house built on sand that collapses after being exposed to the elements.

“I hope you were challenged this year,” Griffin told the audience at Global Credit Union Arena during the final Chapel of the academic year. “I hope you make some decisions about building your life upon Jesus, the teachings of Jesus, His life, the salvation He purchased for us.

“I hope Chapel has been a place for you to come and reflect not only on your personal faith in Him, but the way you live out your faith, the way you live your life before others and in the world in which God has placed you. We can either be foolish or we can be wise. And I trust that this year you’ve challenged yourself to build your life on Him.”

Before the worship team concluded its performance, Griffin saluted the arena staff for transforming the floor from other events in time for Chapel on Monday mornings, the public safety team for providing a “great and safe experience,” and the production team.

Griffin also recognized senior members of the worship team who would be graduating: Isabella Gomes, Peyton Peterson, Robert Sanchez, Justin Yeater, Josiah Collins, Ethan Larson, Nicky Casarella, Noah Harkness, Gabe Quinlan and Kennedy Turner.
