Hobby Lobby president Steve Green will be one of the featured Chapel speakers for the GCU 2025 spring semester.
Green's parents, David and Barbara, founded the retail arts and crafts giant in Oklahoma City in 1972, with the idea of making small picture frames. The company now operates more than 1,000 stores in 48 states across the country.
Besides being known for his business acumen, Steve Green also comes from a family of strong faith, founding the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., which showcases artifacts spanning more than 4,000 years. He is chairman of the board for the museum and is involved in many national and international Christian ministries and charities.
Green is scheduled to speak Feb. 10 at Chapel, which begins at 11 a.m. on Mondays at Global Credit Union Arena. He will be a first-time guest at the Monday worship series. Eight speakers are scheduled to address students, faculty and staff at Chapel, which also features music by student musicians and vocalists who are part of the university's Worship team.
"We have a great lineup of local church pastors coming in from throughout the Valley," said Jared Ulrich, GCU Worship and pastoral manager.
Besides Green, GCU President Brian Mueller will continue his tradition of leading the first Chapel service of the semester. He will be at the arena this Monday.
In September, Mueller focused his fall Chapel talk on bivocational ministry, encouraging students to consider a role in the church while also working in a career as engineers, teachers, social workers and other professions.
This semester's Chapel also will feature newcomer pastor Tim Birdwell, founding and lead pastor of Phoenix Bible Church.
Returning will be Dr. Tim Griffin, GCU University pastor, who will speak at the semester's second Chapel on Jan. 13; Des Wadsworth, lead pastor of Grace Community Church; senior pastor Dan Steffen, lead pastor of Pure Heart Church in Glendale; elder Sean Myers of Pella Communities in Glendale, Arizona; and a Chapel favorite, Chris Brown of California-based North Coast Church
There will be no services on Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Day, Feb. 17 for Presidents Day and March 10, which will be during spring break.
Chapel isn't the only time set aside for students to connect to their faith. Spiritual Formation Workshops begin at 3:30 p.m. Mondays at Sunset Auditorium, the Gathering starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays in Antelope Gymnasium, and Sanctuary is at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Sunset Auditorium. All will kick off the spring semester next week.
