About 60 GCU faculty and staff got a sneak peek of the College of Arts and Sciences building on Wednesday. Charlie Sirokman, project director for campus development, led a tour of the four-story building, which is about 50 percent complete. Each floor has an open-air breezeway with elevators that will separate offices on the east end of the floor and classrooms and labs on the west end. The first floor – which already is painted and has sheetrock in place — will include a chapel, offices for Spiritual Life and Christian Studies, a staff lounge and classrooms. The most distinctive feature is an open-air cross within the brickwork on the southeastern corner of the chapel. “We call it the cornerstone of campus off the Promenade,” Sirokman said. A cross pattern also will be visible in the carpeting and ceiling clouds of the chapel, and a corner section of the wall will be made of glass and lead to a multipurpose garden-type gathering area where the cornerstone cross is located. Is It Hot Enough Yet for This? Does Anyone Care?

Warmer weather brought about a little water slide merriment on the northwestern corner of the intramural field on Monday afternoon. The event, organized by the fifth-floor residential assistants at Prescott Hall, was open to anyone who wasn’t afraid to get a little wet. “The RAs usually plan events at night, but these particular girls just wanted to do something a little different,” said Nicole Clifton, residential director for Prescott Hall. The first 100-degree day of 2012 could be on the way this weekend.
