Peet’s coming to campus

Peet’s Coffee & Tea, the premier specialty coffee and tea company in the U.S., is coming to Grand Canyon University with multiple locations on campus. Peet’s will move into the second floor of the Student Union, replacing Starbucks after the contract with that vendor was not renewed. Another Peet’s location is planned for GCU Arena in the concession area of the first floor. “We are excited about making Peet’s our coffee provider with multiple locations on campus and to offer students and employees lower prices — about 10 percent less, on average,” said Kristen Fraley, GCU’s food services manager. “Multiple locations mean shorter lines and the ability to grab coffee at convenient locations across our growing campus.” Both GCU locations are expected to open Monday, Aug. 25, for the first day of classes. The Student Union location initially will offer brewed coffee and tea while the space is being renovated, and is expected to be full-service by Monday, Sept. 8. Done! Arena is ready for its unveiling

The expansion of GCU Arena was finished ahead of schedule and under budget, and the consensus is that it turned out great. The early finish enables the University to hold the Switchfoot concert there at the end of Welcome Week.

Four more res halls, other buildings slated for 2015

The new residence halls opening this fall at Grand Canyon University are just the beginning of a major phase of new dorm construction. On Thursday, GCU President and CEO Brian Mueller announced plans to build four six-story residence halls at the northwest corner of campus.

Baptisms, water fun highlight Saddleback’s visit

More than 860 high students from southern California’s Saddleback Church arrived on campus Sunday for a weeklong summer camp. Camps attractions included a sub-50 degree “Chill Zone,” a private concert by Christian artist Phil Wickham and a water park dubbed “Winter Waterland,” to keep campers cool temperatures reaching up to 115 degrees.

Student Union’s new interior pairs academics, food

The Grand Canyon University Student Union received an aesthetic upgrade earlier this year, swapping its outdated beach motif for a more modern, student-focused design. The new look features images of three-dimensional, over-sized utensils, images of famous faces and giant pull quotes about food.
