GCU Magazine finds miles of smiles at 'Joy U'

Sheer joy seems to be in short supply these days elsewhere, but it's so common around the Grand Canyon University campus that the cover headline for the November issue of GCU Magazine is "Joy U." Senior writer Mike Kilen interviewed almost two dozen people, both students and staff, to find out why it's such a joyous place. He found out that while the smiles are readily apparent at major campus events, such as Midnight Madness and The Gathering, the joy comes out in the simplest of ways – such as when someone holds open a door for you. It's the secret sauce of the GCU community.

The issue also contains a preview of the food in the new Havoc House, opening soon in GCU Arena, and a profile of basketball star Jovan Blacksher Jr. and his legacy as one of the best players in GCU history. Also covered are academics, featuring the partnership between the Colangelo College of Business and the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, and community outreach, best seen in the expanded Learning Lounge at 27th Avenue and Camelback Road. A story about the new program for recent graduates kicks off the alumni section.

Here's the digital version of the issue, which also is available in purple bins all across campus.
