Magazine talking points include Thunder interview

The April issue of GCU Magazine is filled with informative stories and eye-grabbing photos, but there's one thing it has that's unprecedented.

An interview with Thunder.

Well, it's not a normal interview. We had to have one of Thunder's handlers, Caleb Dunn, translate − he understands "Thundlish."

But if you've ever wanted to know what goes through the mind of a furry, friendly mascot, here's your opportunity. Thunder had a lot to "say," which didn't surprise us. His antics demonstrate that he's smarter than the average antelope.

The magazine cover story explores the ever-growing influx of Grand Canyon University students in local churches, an extension of their enthusiasm for worship services on campus. And the most remarkable part of all is that they aren't told where to go to church -- it's mostly by word of mouth.

Spirituality also is a key element for GCU student-athletes and coaches. In conjunction with the cover story, there's a look at how the athletics culture is filled with prayer.

There also are in-depth reports on how GCU is battling the teacher and nurse shortages and the popularity of the new GCU Recording Lab, along with a traditional April entry -- the top 10 GCU stories of the academic year.

Magazines have been distributed all over campus, and you can read the digital version here.
