Benefits of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

By Kayla Hartson

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an efficient and quick way to switch up your workout routine.

As we step into the holidays, life starts to get busy with family, friends and food. For many people, the craziness of this time of year means that their fitness routine goes out the window. HIIT is a great way to continue to make fitness a priority because it’s quick, effective, and fun.

What are the benefits of HIIT?

  • It saves you time: When you do HIIT, you body is working at a high intensity, which means you can work for less time and still accomplish the same results.
  • No equipment necessary: HIIT is convenient because you don’t need weights or any fancy equipment to complete your workout.
  • It increases your metabolism: One of the best parts about HIIT training is the fact that you continue to burn calories for hours after your workout. This is known as Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). After HIIT, the body works to restore energy and return to a resting state, which is the reason for continued calorie burn. This concept makes HIIT an effective training and weight-management solution.

Try this HIIT workout this week. During each 45-second interval, you are working at your max effort. Take 15 seconds to recover and then move on to the next move.
