GCU News Bureau

The campus fitness centers, swimming pools, Lopes Performance Center (LPC) and Canyon Activity Center (CAC) will be open when students return. In order to prioritize the health and safety of everyone in the GCU community, there are some new safety protocols:

  • Access Reservations: Students and staff wanting to utilize any of the fitness centers and pools will be required to sign up for a time slot in order to reserve a spot. Reservations will be 60 minutes long with a 30-minute time period for cleaning between each reservation time. You can log into the new Campus Recreation Portal, gcu.edu, to make a reservation. Open spots will be made available 48 hours in advance. These reservations ensure that physical distancing can be maintained and allow time to clean and sanitize equipment before and after each use.
  • GCU ID: Please make sure you have your valid GCU ID in order to check in at all facilities on campus.
  • Mask/Face Covering Policy: Face coverings are REQUIRED to be worn entering/exiting and while walking through the facility. Face coverings can TEMPORARILY be removed when participating in physical exercise where the level of exertion makes wearing a face covering difficult, and if social distancing can always be maintained.
  • Locker Rooms: For health and safety reasons, showers and lockers will not be available in the LPC and CAC locker rooms.
  • Indoor Basketball Courts: Courts will be available for use, but only activities that can maintain physical distancing will be allowed. For example, shooting on hoops is OK with 2-3 people at a time, but games such as pickup basketball where physical contact is too close will not be permitted. Reservations are not needed to access the courts at CAC or LPC, but reservations are required for the weight rooms in both the CAC and LPC.
  • Climbing Wall: The Climbing Wall will be open this fall. For more information on Climbing Wall memberships and reservations, please visit myrec.gcu.edu.
  • No Guests: No guests will be allowed access to the facilities for the fall semester.
