There was laughter, a few tears and a stirring sense of pride Saturday during Grand Canyon University’s Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The event celebrated five new inductees with long, successful careers and a passion for giving back to the community.

This week’s edition of Antelope intros features a credentials evaluator who loved GCU so much he chose to stay upon graduating. The other is a University development counselor with a passion for health and wellness. Both get a kick out of the outdoors.

They gathered for a welcoming party, Glow Golf, a Habit for Humanity project, artistic painting instruction, a tailgate, a pep rally and the annual derby kart races.                  

After GCU’s Robotics Club came back from its first-ever competition, team members decided to give their friendly little ‘bot a major upgrade. The 23×23-23-inch Thunderbot 2.0, complete with a vacuum-type arm, is ready to make itself known at its next competition, this weekend’s southwest Vex U Regional Qualifier.

The campus was about as busy as it will ever be Thursday when the Job and Internship Fair took over. There were tables everywhere — and plenty of sharply dressed students looking to impress potential employers. It was the largest job fair the Career IMPACT Center has ever put on.

Nothing keeps graduates connected to their alma mater more than a group created just for them. At GCU, that group is the Phoenix Lopes Alumni Chapter, which is getting ready to celebrate the return of thousands of alumni to the campus this weekend for homecoming

The Honors college hosted an Amazing Race Leadership Retreat where they competed in small groups in physical, critical thinking and team building challenges. The race followed the structure of the “Amazing Race” reality competition show in which typically eleven teams of two race around the world. Students used clues to navigate through challenges and then worked together manage their time and earn points.   

Colangelo School of Sports Business students on Wednesday got to hear from Jodi Wasserman, Director of Marketing and Events for The Upper Deck Company, famous for its trading cards. She had lots of important advice and insights into what she does and how they can get on board with a company like that.
