GCU statement regarding DACA announcement

September 06, 2017 / by / 5 Comments

GCU supports and embraces the 300-400 DACA students on campus.

Grand Canyon University supports initiatives that provide legal clarity for DACA students and is reaching out to our Arizona representatives in hopes that Congress will enact meaningful and timely immigration reform.

GCU resides in an inner-city neighborhood where many immigrants reside. As we have embedded ourselves in this community and continue our efforts to revitalize West Phoenix, we have seen firsthand the incredible work ethic and contributions of these residents.

As a private institution, GCU is a diverse and inclusive university that treats all students the same regardless of where they are from. Tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state residents, including DACA students, and all students are eligible for the same institutional scholarships based on their academic standing.

We estimate there are 300-400 DACA students currently on our campus and we will continue to support and embrace them as they pursue their education and build a better future for themselves and their families.

Your first paragraph is excellent. Our legislators need to do their job in regards to DACA students. We should all reach out to our representatives. Hoping they can reach some sort of compromise.

We are all treated the same, we are all children of God. Keep up the good work GCU. Every student at your door deserves a chance to learn and it seems like GCU is a great place to do so.

What do you mean by legal clarity? Former Preaident Obama said it was temporary. The president had zero constitutional authority to enact the executive orders giving life to DACA and DAPA which the Supreme Court has already declared unconstitutional. I am going to assume the university plans to go contrary to Federal Law in hopes the Congress will fix a problem which predates 7 previous Presidents. A problem created by illegal allien parent s who put their children in this circumstance. It was not Congress or the President’s fault; if so, prove it. This goes far beyond the subject of illegally immigrated person’s, legally immigrated persons or born natural citizens attending a univeritsy on an equal footing. What matters more is whether GCU and its leadership is willing to obey the laws of the land as commanded so by Jesus Himself (the subject at hand has zero to do with denying Christ) to obey the laws of the land and civil authority. In this case present Federal and State Law and the Constitution of the United States of America. After reading this segment GCU has chosen not to. Though disguised as a noble act towards the vulnerable it is afront to the very foundation this country was created and jepordizes the long term survivability of what we know as the Representative Republic experiment; equal representation. Some semblace of reason to become a Legal U.S. citizen and not equal standing or freebee’s equal protection under the law Chose to side with policy already declared as unconstitutional is wrong bibcally and legally.
This sounds like the same philosophy sinners use in believing they can be a part of the kingdom of Heaven Without having to obey the commandments of Jesus Christ. You love Jesus, you are mandated to obey His commandments! Give unto Ceasar what is due him. In other words; obey civil authority GCU! Just as you are supposed to give Jesus what is due Him. Complete obedience. DACA people, please get your citizenship ASAP it is the least you can do for being helped ahead of the line of millions doing thung the right way. Make this great opportunity GCU is giving you count for something large than yourselves. Help change your home of origin with your world class education if your noble if not…. God help you.
