A diverse array of speakers — including four new ones — highlights the Chapel schedule for the spring semester at Grand Canyon University.

Three of the newcomers have a background in athletics.

Oye Waddell of New City Church, scheduled to speak on Jan. 23, is a former University of Washington football player who is executive director of Hustle PHX, a ministry he founded in 2013 to mentor entrepreneurs.

Emma Tautolo, who follows a week later, played volleyball at UCLA. She is the associate campus director for Athletes in Action at Arizona State University.

Luke Simmons of Redemption Church, scheduled for Feb. 13, played baseball at the University of Illinois.

The final newcomer is Noe Garcia of North Phoenix Baptist Church. He is scheduled to speak on March 6.

The three returning speakers from outside GCU are Dustin Tappan of Christ’s Church of the Valley, Riccardo Stewart of Redemption Church and Kent DelHousaye of Bethany Bible Church.

Chapel begins at 11:15 a.m. Mondays through April 3 in GCU Arena except for three times this semester when classes are not in session: Jan. 16, Feb. 20 and March 20. Chapel generally includes 15 minutes of spiritual music by one of the all-student Chapel bands and a 30-minute talk by the guest speaker.

Students also have the opportunity to attend The Gathering at 8 p.m. Tuesdays in Antelope Gym. It follows a similar format and usually features speakers from GCU.
