MELISSA BOSCO

Job title: Online enrollment counselor for Ken Blanchard College of Business

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? I am an alumna of GCU – I got my undergrad degree in psychology in December 2013. I firmly believe in GCU and wanted to be part of a company that promotes success for its students as well as its employees. I wanted to be able to inspire students to reach their academic goals and be a model for how it can be done.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I am a huge fitness fanatic, and I actually box at the UFC Gym Glendale, where I’ve been working out for almost two years.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about helping people in all aspects of their lives. I believe that success is whatever you measure it to be and I want to be able to voice that to others. They should compare themselves only to themselves.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I really love country music, so now that I’m not putting that money toward school I’ll be able to go to some concerts.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: Most people would not guess that I box and that I have six tattoos.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my degree! I’m the first in my family to graduate from college, so it was a big deal for me.

SOFIA RIZVI

Job title: University development representative

Job location: Houston

What attracted you to GCU? GCU impressed me with its culture both on the outside and from within. Attending the trainings and regional meetings and watching the staff being fully dedicated to student success while still making it a fun-loving environment sells me on making a difference and being part of an intelligent organization.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to travel around the world and U.S. and learn about other cultures. Seeing different types of people with different backgrounds shows how we are all so different but still the same. We all want to grow, be successful and find happiness in our lives no matter what background we come from.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about educating others and being a solutions provider to organizations across the Houston area serving the health care industry’s educational needs. I am passionate about excelling in whatever I put my mind to.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? In my amazing group of trainees, a few of the UDRs and I visited Sedona, which was beyond beautiful. Its history and gorgeous views were unmatched. Also, visiting the GCU campus was purely inspirational. Watching students happily roam the campus, seeing the awesome dorms, the Chapel service on Monday, the musicians, Brian Mueller’s passion and the Lopes spirit made me believe I was meant to be here.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I have been married for 14 years and I have two amazing boys named Zain and Faris, who are total opposites yet super charming and a delight to be around. I have been in the education industry for years, working with high-profile universities, and have found my home at GCU.

What are you most proud of? I am proud of finding my purpose!

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? The movie theatre.
