Jerry Colangelo and two of his top executives at USA Basketball were on campus Tuesday afternoon to provide insight to students of GCU’s Colangelo School of Sports Business.

The University has been connecting with capacity crowds on one of Christian music’s biggest tours, and its message of an affordable, private college education is coming through loud and clear.

Seven inductees were honored Saturday in ceremonies at Ethington Theatre as part of the day’s homecoming festivities on campus. They also included two educators, a pastor, a nurse and a literary agent.

In a performance that lasted nearly two hours, the Canyon Singers, New Life Singers and Canyon Chorale presented songs by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and George and Ira Gershwin in a tour of the country’s musical heritage.

GCU’s Peoria and Tempe locations have since settled their differences and combined to form an employee “all-star” team to challenge a team of GCU’s top intramural basketball players.

The buzz around campus is definitely the addition to the Student Union building that will be completed this summer. Here are a few architect renderings that will give you an idea of what to expect.

“Tales From the Dugout,” co-hosted by former GCU star Tim Salmon, drew a huge crowd to the Arena to hear inspirational stories from three of the top players in the game today.

Back in 1988, when shorts were actually short, the Grand Canyon College men’s basketball team won the NAIA championship under Coach Paul Westphal, who enters the GCU Hall of Fame on Saturday as part of homecoming activities on campus.

Michael Ledbetter, who now works on the GCU campus, missed a big shot but made several other ones along the way to an NAIA championship with the Antelopes 25 years ago.

GCU’s Peoria office put a new twist on employee appreciation, hosting “A Lunch at the Oscars” for members of the Campus 6 team headed by Reggie Alfonso.
