College of Nursing Shows Off New Simulation Lab

The College of Nursing opened the doors to its new simulation lab Thursday, providing tours of the state-of-the-art facility and an opportunity to speak with instructors on how it will be used. In addition to the SimMan3G room, there also is an obstetrics room with a birthing mother and babies, a pediatrics room with a child mannequin, three exam rooms and a makeshift apartment for Home Healthcare and Hospice.

Cheer, Dance Make Big Impression at Camp

Congratulations to GCU’s cheer and dance teams, which brought home several awards from last weekend’s UCA/UDA summer camp at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The camp also was attended by Arizona State University and the University of Arizona. The dance team took third place, and cheer won the Leadership Award (described as “If you were not a member of your own team, which team would you want to be on?”).

There’s Change, and Then There’s GCU Change

Monday, August 3, 2009, was pretty much a typical August day in Phoenix — hot, in other words — but it also was my first day in my new position at my new place of employment. I was starting a position as director of academic excellence — whatever that meant — at the College of Education for Grand Canyon University. As I look back over the last two years, I cannot help but marvel at the change that has overtaken this once-sleepy university.

‘Lopes Department Growing in Numbers

GCU’s Lopes Department celebrated its one-year anniversary this week, complete with birthday cake at the Canyon Café for the team of 50 student workers and two managers. The department, which pre-evaluates transcripts for prospective students, began with 18 workers last August and continues to grow in step with the University.
