Cactus Park Police Precinct

12220 N. 39th Ave

Phoenix, AZ 85029

Q Q

Goals: What are your main goals as commander of Cactus

Park Precinct?

A A

My main goals as the Cactus Park Precinct

commander are pretty basic— to provide the

officers, detectives, sergeants and lieutenants

under my command with the leadership,

direction and resources needed to enable

them to do their jobs as safely and effectively

as possible. In the two years, I’ve had the

privilege of commanding the precinct.

We’ve accomplished significant reduction

in violent crime throughout the precinct.

We’ve experienced these successes because

the people doing the heavy lifting are true

professionals and want to make a positive

difference in the community.

Q Q

Community: What does “community” mean to you?

A A

To me, “community” means the

neighborhoods in which we live, work and

play—where we raise our kids and develop

memories of our lives.

Q Q

Officer Reduction: How can the community immediately

better work with Cactus Park Precinct and the Phoenix

Police Department to be successful during this time of

reduction in officers? Do you see this changing in the

near future?

A A

The best way the community can most

effectively work with the police department

is by understanding that things that we were

once able to do may not be possible in the

immediate future. In these times of officer

reductions, we all have to be a little more

patient and understanding. We’ll always be

there for the community, keeping people safe

and securing in their neighborhoods, but the

extras that we have always been known for

may not be possible right now. Things are

starting to change, but we won’t truly see and

feel that change for about 18 – 24 months.

Q Q

Community Based Policing: In light of situations around

the country, what is the Cactus Park Precinct and the

Phoenix Police Department doing to better develop

community relations?

A A

Training, training and more training.

We recognize that we can learn from the

mistakes made by other police departments

and the best way to capitalize on such

unfortunate incidents is to take a critical

look at our own practices and not be afraid to

make changes where changes are warranted.

Q Q

VIP(ViolenceImpactProject): Whatarethegoalsofthe

VIPProgram? Howdowemeasuresuccesstowardthose

goals? Andwhatdoyouenvisionwillbeneededtosustain

The goals of the Violence Impact Project

are to reduce violent and property crime

in the designated area by collaborating
