This week's edition of Antelope Intros features two University admissions counselors - both are alumni. One is a baseball fan who gets a kick out of live music. The other is a newlywed who will drive a long way for coffee.

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

JASON HARMON

Jason Harmon

Job title: University admissions counselor, transfer specialist

Job location: Main campus

What attracted you to GCU? It’s a growing campus and there are amazing opportunities. I came to GCU as a student because of the great education and the fantastic scholarship opportunities. I really appreciate how well taken care of the students are. As an employee I was drawn to admissions because I wanted to bring others into the experience and university that had such a meaningful and deep impact on my life. Being a small part in changing lives is something that really excites me. In my four years living in Arizona, I would have to say that Sedona and Flagstaff are my favorite places to explore in the state. As someone who came from the California desert, I really appreciate the distinct look of the northern areas of Arizona.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love going to concerts and my favorite every summer is the Vans Warped Tour!

What are you passionate about? Engaging students and helping them join the herd here at GCU.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Nothing is better to me than Dodgers games during spring training. Favorite time of year!

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I spent two years coaching high school basketball and baseball back home in California. I would love to eventually coach at the collegiate level.

What are you most proud of? Being the first person in my family to graduate from college.

JOSIE PEKETZ

Josie Peketz

Job title: University admissions counselor, community colleges

Job location: Denver

What attracted you to GCU? I was a student worker in the Marketing department and fell in love with GCU during the two years I attended. I wanted to be able to continue with GCU as a career!

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I enjoy hanging out with friends, adventure and explore Colorado, read, draw and love on students.

What are you passionate about? I am so passionate about teenagers and young adults. I had so many people who were such a great influence in my life during that time, and so I want to be able to be that for other teenagers.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? Dutch Brothers is my life! We have one in Colorado, and I drive 45 minutes to get my fix. No shame. But seriously, I just love the food and culture that Phoenix has to offer. One of my favorite things to do when I lived in the Valley was to explore coffee shops in the area, such as Dutch Brothers, Copper Star and Lux. I also loved the Phoenix Zoo, awesome shopping shops in Scottsdale and Tempe, and fun places to explore in Sedona, Flagstaff and near the Grand Canyon.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I just got married on July 20, and I am so excited to jump into married life!

What are you most proud of? My family and friends. They mean the world to me, and I love celebrating big things with them.
