worked in law enforcement for
35 years at the Phoenix Police
Department and the Arizona
Department of Public Safety.
Vincent
Briedis, B.A. in
Communications:
Public Relations,
01, andM.B.A.,

is an
assistant athletics media
relations director at the
University of Virginia. In 2012,
Briedis was recognized by the
Football Writers Association of
America for his efforts in the field
of sports media/information. The
organization annually gives the
honor to 11 sports information
departments deemed the best
in the NCAA Football Bowl
Subdivision.
Michael Burtch, M.S. in
Leadership,
06,
recently moved
with his family to Knoxville, Tenn.,
where he is a student adviser at
Brown State Community College.
Burtch and his wife, Crystal, have
three children, born in 2009, 2011
and 2013.
Denise Nathan, B.S. in Public
Safety Administration,
07,
of
Berwyn, Ill., owns An Athletic
Edge Consulting, a sports
psychology business. Nathan
helps athletes train for, compete
in and recover from rigorous
competitions. She is working
on a master’s degree in mental
health counseling from Nova
Southeastern University
and expects to graduate in
December 2015. Nathan also
is pursuing certification as a
classical pilates instructor.

Kenneth Krebbs,
B.S. in Emergency
Management,
’10, andM.S.
in Leadership:
Disaster Preparedness and
Executive Fire Leadership,

of Rimrock, Ariz., provides
emergency preparedness
services in his community.
Krebbs is director of fire
science at Yavapai College
in Prescott, and is a disaster
recovery coordinator for the
Arizona Division of Emergency
Management. He also is the
emergency planner for Phoenix
International Raceway, working
with the Unified Command
Center during NASCAR events.
James Brekhus, B.S. in
Medical Imaging Sciences,
11,
of Wilmington, N.C., is a staff
technologist at a local medical
center. His words of advice
for fellow alumni and current
students: “Live, learn and share
what you have learned!”
Michelle Altenbern, M.E. in
Curriculum and Instruction,
11,
lives in La Quinta, Calif., with her
husband, David, and is a first-
grade teacher. Altenbern recently
fostered a partnership with
the McCallum Theatre in Palm
Desert to bring the fine arts to her
students, and she hopes to bridge
the gap between her teaching
and advocating for the arts. She
participated in a summer training
program during the theatre’s
Aesthetic Education Program,
furthering her classroom
techniques to integrate the arts.
James Glass,
B.S. in Applied
Management,
11,
of
Milton, Fla., is retired
from the U.S. Navy and is the
author of “The Ultimate Chief Petty
Officer Guidebook,” which can
help sailors set and achieve their
goals. Glass advocates theWheel
of Success, comprising 10 vital
areas on which a sailor should
focus, and he demonstrates how
going above and beyond the call
of duty can influence the overall
success of a sailor.
Lisa Zemaitis, B.S.
in Health Care
Administration,
12,
lives in Crystal
Lake, Ill., where she is a physical
therapist assistant for McHenry
County Orthopedics. She is a
credentialed certified quality
improvement associate and a
clinical instructor. As a single
mother, her drive to be a positive
role model for her children is
reflected in her enthusiasm for
GCU’s Christian foundation.
Fawndena
Williamson, M.E. in
Special Education:
Cross Categorical
(IR),
13,
owns
Cornerstone Catering in Yuma,
Ariz., where she combines her
two loves: working with food and
with people with special needs.
Working closely with the Achieve
Foundation, Williamson’s goal is
to teach valuable life skills and
provide opportunities to special-
needs adults by employing some
of them in her business. She
previously was a high school
culinary arts teacher for 10 years.
