Student Worker of Month: Fair a Fixture at Ethington Theatre

By Bob Romantic GCU News Bureau Rebecca Fair is the first face visitors see when they visit Ethington Theatre – even when maybe she’s not supposed to be. Fair works as a box office assistant at Ethington, which technically means she’s supposed to be there 20 hours a week. Good luck with that. In reality, she’s there twice that amount of time. “The box office is technically open from 9 to 5, so I take care of it. It just makes it easier if I’m here,” said Fair, a sophomore theatre major who has been chosen as the Career Services Student Worker of the Month for April. “There’s times I’m here and do nothing and I sit there and say, ‘OK I’m going to do homework,’ and other times it gets crazy and there are five calls at once. “Being here in the theatre, I get to see all my peers and friends and the actors I work with. Student Worker of the Month: Josh Girgenti

The Office of Career Services has chosen Josh Girgenti as its Student Worker of the Month. Girgenti is a sophomore with a dual major in health-care and business administration. As a worker in the Antelope Reception Center in GCU Arena, he serves as a receptionist and is the assistant to the ARC’s director, Shannon Landers. “He is an excellent leader and a great motivator,” Landers says. “Josh exemplifies Christian camaraderie. His willingness to serve is clear in his excellent customer service and leadership qualities.”

Career Services Becomes a Mickey Mouse Operation

Walt Disney’s philosophy about customer service was quite simple: “Keep it clean … Keep it friendly … Make it a real fun place to be.” Director of Career Services Jacqueline Smith wants everyone to know GCU has more in common with Disney than just charming mascots. If it’s up to her, every GCU student will leave school with the same purpose, passion and work ethic as Disney’s best. With more than 800 student workers (and counting) on campus, Smith’s office will have much to say on the matter. This past semester, Student Worker Training Manager Connie Sugarman and Career Specialist Brittany Mony trained more than half of the University’s student workers.
