Brewers-GCU partnership is home run for learning

GCU and the Milwaukee Brewers have a new deal to place a Learning Lounge at the team’s spring training facility in Maryvale. The baseball team has committed to staying in Phoenix for another 25 years, renovating and expanding the complex, and offering GCU’s tutoring services. Tyler Barnes, Vice President of Communications for the Brewers, said, “This is a community initiative, and the goal is to have this program serve as a key with our relationship with GCU and the local Maryvale schools.”

Fuel for Finals is a warm display of love

Volunteers were out in force again Thursday as Fuel for Finals gave students prayers, encouragement and some treats as they prepare for exams. “When people came to lay hands on me, I kind of got this feeling that God knew I needed that little boost,” nursing student Kendall Johnson said.

This Lope goes to great heights for Special Olympics

GCU freshman Sarah Shea on Saturday will be stepping off the edge of CityScape, one of the tallest buildings in Phoenix, and will be dressed in a Spider-Man suit, no less. The special education major is afraid of heights, but she is making like a superhero by participating in Over the Edge, which benefits Special Olympics Arizona. She’s doing it in honor of two friends she met in third grade — one has Down Syndrome, the other has cerebral palsy.

Symposium brings entrepreneurial ideas into focus

Students, staff and faculty at Ethington Theatre Wednesday morning got to hear from Grand Canyon University’s top five Learning Communities at the Semi-Annual Learning Community Symposium. President Brian Mueller said the event was “a hallmark of who GCU is becoming.”

Dance concert to find beat in pacemaker, much more

Ethington Dance Ensemble’s winter concert, “The Arc Between,” will explore everything from jazz to ballet to social issues and even swimming. More than 40 dancers and nine choreographers are involved in the production 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8-9 at Grand Canyon University’s Ethington Theatre.
