GCU club engineers hope for Ruby

What mechanical engineering major Grant Goodman thought would be a weekend project turned into a seven-month labor of love for him and members of GCU’s electrical engineering club. The club made a specialized wheelchair for Ruby Saunders, whose mobility is limited by cerebral palsy and other health issues.

Story by Laurie Merrill Photos by Travis Neely GCU News Bureau Charlie Brown is befuddled, Sally is mad, Schroeder is intense, Snoopy is cool and Lucy — well, Lucy is just plain Lucy. Whether you’re a big fan of Charles M. Schulz’ Peanuts characters or just meeting them for the first time, you’re sure to find them captivating in Ethington Theatre’s “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” which opens today at 7:30 p.m. Tonight’s production is sold out and tickets are selling fast for remaining shows because of the sizzle generated by the singing-and-dancing romp performed by actors whose sheer delight in playing their roles shows in every facial expression and line. “For me, the Peanuts comic strips were a huge part of my childhood and upbringing, and for Charles M. Photos by Travis Neely GCU News Bureau “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is a feel-good, family-friendly musical about the beloved comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles M. Schulz. Audiences of all ages will enjoy watching those oh-so-familiar characters singing, dancing and making sophisticated jokes. Charlie Brown’s friends endure amusing mishaps and chaos, and that helps him discover what truly makes them happy. The musical opens 7:30 p.m. today at Ethington Theatre, but the first show is sold out and other shows are selling fast. Tickets can be purchased here or at Groupon. Students get in free with ID.  Other performances are 7:30 p.m. Saturday,  2 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 and Saturday, Nov. 25, and 2 p.m. Sunday,  Nov. 26.

Hospitality program earns another victory

Grand Canyon University’s hospitality program has scored a lot of victories since its advent in August 2015, and it got another “W” on Thursday when one of its star students, Sarah Mondragon, was part of a panel that won a fun competition at the November luncheon of the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International’s Arizona chapter.

GCU opens doors to Graduate Programs Office

GCU university counselors and graduate program staff celebrated the grand opening of a Graduate Program Office on Thursday. The new office space, located inside of Canyon Hall, will offer an opportunity for ground students to visit and meet with a graduate program counselor Monday through Friday.

GCU’s finger on the pulse of science with HSET Day

More than 2,300 students from 65 schools across Arizona tiptoed through cadaver, engineering and DNA labs, and cavorted with 3D printers and robots as part of GCU’s Health, Sciences, Engineering and Technology Day on Wednesday. The goal is to showcase the STEM programs, facilities and clubs GCU offers.
