The purple-and-black, camo-style T-shirts were everywhere Tuesday morning as employees of the Military Division at Grand Canyon University paid their annual Memorial Day visit to the Arizona State Veteran Home in central Phoenix.

GCU staffers served coffee and doughnuts to the veterans and also joined them in cards, wheelchair bowling, a drum circle and a sing-along. More than that, they took time to chat with the vets and to thank them for their service to the country.

“We look forward to this every year,” says Chris Landauer of the University's Peoria office. “The list fills up right away. We love coming down here and relating to these guys.”

Jon Tang, recreational therapist at the facility, praised the group of more than two dozen visitors for their support.

"It's good for the guys to see new faces and meet the next generation," Tang said of the occasion. "They enjoy it, and you can see it in their faces."

Bible Verse

"Consider carefully what you hear," Jesus continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you — and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him." Mark 4:24-25

Jesus continued His message, saying, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4:23-24)
