Cheer, Dance Teams Set for 2011-12 Year

GCU’s cheer and dance teams have been chosen for 2011-12, after recent tryouts that drew more than 70 applicants.

“We could not be happier with the turnout,” said Emily Stephens, GCU’s cheer coach.  “It really shows how much the interest level in our programs is growing.”

Tryouts were a four-day process that included learning the GCU fight song. A panel of judges interviewed and evaluated both groups.

Dance applicants had an opportunity to perform their own numbers during auditions. Cheer applicants were asked to demonstrate their tumbling and stunting skills and were assessed on their strength and conditioning.

“The talent level is higher than it has ever been,” Stephens said, “and this year forecasts excellent teams with experienced, focused and dedicated members. Thank you to the enrollment teams for helping us with this process."

The dance team, coached by Eva St. Arnauld, selected 14 women. The cheer team chose 12 women and two men, and it plans to add men in the fall.

Bible Verse

Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. (Romans 3:27-28)
