Building a GCU for the 21st Century

April 2010 As the towering cranes testify, Grand Canyon University has begun one of the most ambitious construction projects in its 61-year history. Over the next year and a half, the campus will be transformed as it opens a new dormitory, a Student Recreation Center, a College of Education classroom building and finally an Event Center. It’s an exciting time in the life of GCU. Soon, the possibilities at 33rd Avenue and Camelback Road will become limitless. Imagine coming to campus for a sold-out basketball game, concert or theatrical performance in the Event Center. Imagine the 95-acre grounds as a new hub of activity for metropolitan Phoenix, with student amenities that are second to none. Imagine something quite different from what you see today. That vision will become reality very soon. This summer, the campus will have construction activity in virtually all sectors. The new dorm will be partially completed by the start of fall classes and finished by the end of the calendar year. The Student Recreation Center is expected to be ready for use in October.
