Write for Us

GCU Today is seeking student reporters and photographers with an interest in covering the people, events and news of Grand Canyon University. Opportunities are available to campus and online students regardless of academic major. However, you must be able to demonstrate abilities in accurate reporting, clean writing and interviewing.

Contact us at gcutoday@gcu.edu or reach out to senior writer Michael Ferraresi (602-639-7030) if you’re interested in contributing. Include no more than three writing samples with your email. The staff of GCU Today and GCU Today Magazine look forward to working with students who are willing to contribute regularly and want to improve their writing.

Before you pitch us, please consider:

  • Your story ideas. Think about what you want to write about. What could stand to see more detailed coverage in GCU Today, and how would you approach those untapped areas of campus? Your story pitches should be short and sweet – just a few paragraphs explaining the impact and scope of a potential news story or feature.
  • Your skills. What matters is your ability to write clearly and efficiently on deadline. You will have room to be creative, though the site will hold contributors to a similar standard of fairness and accurate reporting that any staff writer is held to. You must ask yourself what you want to get out of contributing to GCU Today? What goals do you have for working with multimedia and how can we help you achieve your goals?
  • Your community. Students should feel their voice is represented by GCU Today, since the website is the primary news source for campus. Think about what’s happening around you and how you might be able to shed light on untold stories, or groups/people are doing interesting things that would be of value to a larger audience.
