Cheer, dance spirit stands out in national event

When Grand Canyon University competed last weekend in the College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Fla., they did more than just show their skill with strong finishes. “Other teams tell us all of the time that we are so kind and we love each other — and we do,” said Emily Stephens, GCU director of spirit programs and cheer coach.

Joshua Braun returned from an injury-related absence of almost six weeks and scored 31 points. He also tied the GCU Division I record by making seven 3-pointers.

Children get the gift of reading ‘Thunder’s Vision’

Dr. Kim LaPrade, dean of the College of Education, is the author of “Thunder’s Vision,” a 14-page children’s book that follows Thunder, a curious little Lope struggling to find his purpose. Through the adventures of Thunder, LaPrade communicates the often unique and unconventional path to purpose. She got to read the book while spreading the holiday cheer for a group of youngsters Tuesday during the all-employee Lopes Christmas Party.
