GCU does not reserve the blessings of a mission trip for students only. Faculty and staff have opportunities to not only go, but lead. The Office of Spiritual Life planned several mission opportunities for Spring and Summer.
Upcoming mission trips include:
December 4-6 Navajo Indian Reservation $150
February 27-March 8 Honduras $1,500
May 7-20 Honduras $1,500
May 7-20 Uganda $3,500
May 7-20 Germany $1,800
May 3-15 Dominican Republic $1,500
According to Ben Grice, Admissions Manager, he had reservations about leaving his family, or giving up his own time, but after returning from his mission trip he could not believe that he almost missed out.
Grice went to Tecate, Mexico with a crew of GCU students and fellow staff. The team did construction work on an orphanage and helped at a vacation bible school.
“When I was in high school I went on a few week-long mission trips to Native American Reservations in Wyoming and Minnesota,” he says. “Each trip, though unique, shared the common thread of impacting how I viewed the world and my place in it. With those trips, God instilled in me a passion to serve.”
According to Grice, the Tecate mission trip became a divine appointment and served as a spark to reinvigorate his own faith.
“I don’t believe anyone can go on a mission trip without returning home a changed person,” he says. “God was at work that weekend in Tecate, no doubt about it. I would go again in a heartbeat.”
Faculty and staff who are interested in the mission trips must fill out a form, just like students, with the $100 deposit.
According to GCU Spiritual Development Director Joe Brooks, there will be a few spots available for faculty/staff sponsors, but if you are selected, leaders will have a once in a life time opportunity to directly impact people all over the world.
“As a leader the trips will not only impact the people who you are serving, but also the students who serve with you,” says Brooks. “I always tell people there are two plans for every mission trip; the one you plan and the one God plans.”
Any staff or faculty member interested in leading a student mission trip should fill out a mission application form, available at my.gcu.edu/spirituallife or in the Office of Spiritual Life. For more information, contact the Office of Spiritual Life at ministry@gcu.edu or 602-639-6750.
