March’s Student Worker of the Month, senior nursing student Megan Nicolazzo, embodies what it means to wear those purple scrubs and represent the Grand Canyon University College of Nursing and Health Care Professions.

As a CONHCP simulation lab assistant, Megan has been recognized by Amber Chapman and Crystal Bowman as someone who fulfills and carries out GCU’s mission, vision and values as a student worker. “Megan exudes a caring and compassionate attitude toward everyone she encounters. She has natural leadership tendencies and carries herself with pride and the determination to succeed,” Chapman said.

When Nicolazzo isn’t busy picking up extra shifts or coming in at the last minute to help with something, she completes her never-ending homework, plays intramural volleyball, travels for long weekends and hangs out with friends when she can, particularly at Lake Pleasant.

Her health provider path started a long time ago when she understood her nurturing personality and desire to help others. With GCU having a good nursing program and being a small school (at the time), she knew it was the perfect fit. Since then, she has made the best of her time here and looks forward to contributing to the nursing field.

Nicolazzo plans to earn her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) at some point but isn’t sure which area quite yet – possibly to become a nurse practitioner or a nurse anesthetist. Either way, she looks forward to encountering so many different people as a nurse and understanding their various walks of life. She wants to help her patients physically, emotionally and mentally.

Her one shout-out is to her fellow nursing students: "Come apply to the simulation lab! A number of the student workers in the 'sim lab' will be graduating this spring and in December."

When Nicolazzo graduates in December, she’ll do us proud in those purple scrubs by continuing to demonstrate her nurturing personality combined with her leadership skills, attention to detail, willingness to help, and a positive demeanor.

Bible Verse

Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. (Romans 3:27-28)
