GCU Hotel ready for guests … and students

The new Grand Canyon University Hotel is scheduled to welcome its first guests Monday, and general manager Brett Cortright has gone to great lengths to make it a welcoming place. No detail is too small, but there’s one very big attraction — the price. It’s only $69 a night for a regular room, $74 for a suite.

Career Services: Understanding the value of strengths

By Aysha Bell GCU Career Services How would it feel to come to work inspired, engaged and truly excited by your job on a daily basis? You may think it sounds like a dream. However, I can attest it doesn’t have to be just a dream. You can take steps to ensure you’re in a career you enjoy by discovering and utilizing your strengths. People who are aware of and utilize their best attributes at work are more engaged, have more fun and are ultimately more successful in their careers. The old adage is true: Do what you love and the money will follow. Success doesn’t happen just because you’re doing what you love. When you love what you do, you work harder and are generally better at it – which leads to results! So how do you figure out your strengths? Think about times when you have truly enjoyed working, volunteering or completing class projects. What skills did you use to finish those tasks? Thunder, GCU staff hand out hundreds of Popsicles to construction crews

That’s what GCU’s lovable Lope did today while visiting construction workers on campus who are working hard in brutal temperatures to finish various projects, including The Grove residence halls and the new engineering building.

Star-spangled singers needed for national anthem auditions

Oh say, can you see yourself singing the national anthem at a GCU home athletics games this year? If so, come out to the national anthem open auditions Sept. 15 in GCU Arena and try to earn a spot. The anthem can be sung or played on an instrument, and remember to dress professionally and memorize the lyrics (if singing). To register, email your full name, phone number and what instrument you’ll play (if applicable) to taylor.griffin@gcu.edu. Ninos Seguros event strengthens local community ties

Piggybacking on last week’s Back To School Clothing Drive event held in GCU Arena, the University continued its strong community outreach over the weekend hosting the 11th annual Ninos Seguros Back to School & Safety Fair. More than 5,500 Valley youth and their families were in Antelope Gym to receive free school supplies and health screenings from GCU nurses and win prizes like bikes, laptops and iPads. Even Phoenix Councilman Daniel Valenzuela was in attendance to make the event one of the best yet.

Back to School and Safety Fair draws 5,550 to GCU

An estimated 5,500 GCU community members received health screenings and supplies at the 11th Annual Canyon Cares and Ninos Seguros Back to School & Safety Fair Saturday in Antelope Gym. The group also enjoyed entertainment, collected safety resources from various local organizations and listened to welcoming remarks from Phoenix City Councilman Daniel Valenzuela.
