Antelope Intros: Sonja Kassube and Charity Norman

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

SONJA KASSUBE

Job title: Student services adviser, military division

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU? I heard it was a great organization to work for, and being able to have my children attend school for free is a huge bonus. I have a daughter attending Arizona Christian University who will transfer and my other daughter will be a senior next year. In addition, I wanted to work with adult students after working with children for 16 years.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I love to read, go to sports events and travel. The best thing to do is read on the beach.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about adults, both young and not so young, achieving their desires of higher education.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I like to try different restaurants around the Valley, and I enjoy playing golf. The Valley is a great place to do both.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I reunited with my college boyfriend after 25 years. When we got back together, we found out our kids attend school together and knew each other before we started to date again.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud of my daughters. They are lovely, hard-working, kind and compassionate young women.

CHARITY NORMAN

Job title: Logistics coordinator

Job location: Main campus, Building 36, Student Engagement

What attracted you to GCU? I have worked in Christian higher education since graduating from college in 2011. I love the environment and working with students, so when my husband and I moved to Phoenix, GCU seemed like the perfect fit.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? We love to be out of the house. Whether it's outside doing something active, meeting up with friends or just taking quick trips to the store, you'll rarely find the Normans inside for a full evening.

What are you passionate about? I am wildly passionate about God's mysterious and symbolic picture of marriage and family. Beyond how it relates to hot-button issues of today, I love to understand and encourage healthy, God-honoring relationships and their image of Christ's love for the Church.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit? I'm new to Phoenix, so there is still so much to discover in our city. We've really enjoyed hiking and trying new places to eat.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I love adventure! I studied abroad twice as a college student and have enjoyed learning about new cultures through mission trips, study and vacation. We moved to Phoenix knowing no one and without ever having been to Arizona.

What are you most proud of? I am so proud of my sweet husband, Dustin. He has a consistent desire to follow the Lord and is an example of both patience and hard work, which he displays to everyone in his life.

Bible Verse

(God told Moses to look at the Promised Land, since he was not going to cross this Jordan, then God said:) "Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see." (Deuteronomy 3:28)
