GCU honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a ceremony that began early Thursday morning and continued well into the day. There were 2,977 flags — one for each victim — in the shape of the Twin Towers and the Pentagon on the lawn of the Quad and flags arranged in the shape of Arizona and representing the number of veterans from the state killed in the line of duty during the war on terror. Dr. Randy Gibb, dean of the College of Business and a former U.S. Air Force colonel, was the main speaker at the event.
