Antelope Intros: John Huerta, Julia Dailey and John Witwer

Antelope Intros is a recurring GCU Today feature that introduces some of our new employees to the people around them in a way that is fun and informative. Employees are eligible to be featured in the month following their orientation.

JOHNNY HUERTA

Job title: Public safety officer

Job location: Camelback Hall

What attracted you to GCU? The opportunity to make a difference, and the challenge and the tremendous opportunity for personal and professional growth.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? I listen to music or I'll catch a movie. However, if there's an opportunity for community service, I'm far more interested in the service aspect.

What are you passionate about? Law enforcement, music and the performing arts.

What are your favorite places or events in the Valley that you like to visit?  Prescott, Flagstaff, Williams and Pinetop-Lakeside are a few worthy mentions. As far as events go, although I'm drawn to movie theatres, a night at the opera tops the list.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I am a professional opera singer and officially signed on with GCU while on the last leg of my tour in Brazil.

What are you most proud of? The most rewarding experience for me aside from my work on the stage would've been the mentoring young men and women via the National Guard's Arizona Project ChalleNGe, which provides a residential military education for high school dropouts, and the Law Enforcement Exploring programs.

JULIA DAILEY

Job title:  Student intake specialist

Job location: Peoria

What attracted you to GCU?  The welcoming culture of the University attracted me most to GCU, but I also was drawn in by its support of veterans and of the community through Canyon Cares.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? For fun, I like to read or work on do-it-yourself projects.

What are you passionate about? My motto is “self-improvement.” I am passionate about always working on improving myself as an employee, wife, mother, sister, friend and all the other roles I possess.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know:  Most people don’t know that I don’t know where to call “home.”  I am an Army brat and an Air Force spouse, so I have “temporary homes.”

What are you most proud of?  I am most proud to be the first in my family to graduate with a bachelor's degree.  I hope to also be the first in my family to earn a master’s degree.

JOHN WITWER

Job title:  Manager of simulation and labs

Job location: College of Arts and Sciences

What attracted you to GCU?  Employee recruitment efforts and subsequent research into the philosophy of supporting holistic student success.

What do you do for fun and where do you find that outlet? Family activities including horseback riding, boating, hiking, board games and regular get-togethers.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about contributing to the success of others. I have been blessed with a spirit of inquiry and determination. Being able to share my discoveries so that others exceed their vision is compelling and intensely rewarding.

Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know: I am organized – in my mind.

What are you most proud of? I am most proud to be called a nurse. It is a great privilege and tremendous responsibility to engage with humanity for no ulterior motive other than to provide a healing service.
