Need to add a little purple to your GCU diet?

You can, now, at the newest eatery on campus: Zoyo Neighborhood Yogurt.

“Thunder berry” will be one of eight yogurt and smoothie flavors available when Zoyo has its soft-launch opening from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in Thunder Alley.

Zoyo opens for good the next day, with hours from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.

“We knew we wanted a yogurt outlet on campus,” said Kristen Fraley, food service manager for Campus Operations. “It’s kind of the craze right now.”

Zoyo is a chain with 10 locations in metro Phoenix. Patrons create their own offerings by using self-serve yogurt dispensaries and adding whatever toppings they desire. The finished product is then weighed and patrons pay by the ounce.

Fraley said there will be four yogurt machines with eight flavors available: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, birthday cake, peanut butter, sorbet, Thunder berry (blueberry) and another still to be determined. Flavors will be changed out weekly or monthly (34 are available).

Toppings will include fresh fruit, M&Ms, candies, nuts, sprinkles, granola, cereal and syrups.

The cost is 42 cents per ounce, for either yogurt or smoothies.

“The smoothies work the same way,” Fraley said. “You pick what you want in it, weigh it and pay for it, then we add ice and blend it.”
