All the World’s a Stage for Rachel Maish

After all, the theater students are taking the saying “all the world’s a stage” in a very literal sense. The upcoming play will take the actors out of Ethington Theater and into GCU’s pool. Maish plays five parts in the play The Frogs, including the chorus.

‘The Frogs’ Brings Theatre to GCU Swimming Pool

When the school’s newly reconstituted College of Fine Arts and Production announced its theatre series months ago, more than a few people — including Adam Benavides — thought it had gone off the deep end. “The Frogs,” an adaptation of an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes, was listed as the last of five productions for the 2010-11 school year. And now Benavides, a GCU freshman from Queen Creek, is playing the lead role of Dionysus, the Greek god of drama, who travels to Hades to bring the playwright George Bernard Shaw back from the dead in an effort to improve the quality of theatre.

Women’s Basketball Team Sets Sights on Africa

Only two weeks removed from the end of the season, the head coach of the Antelope women’s basketball team has plunged headlong into fundraising for a mission trip to Malawi that’s less than six weeks away. Ten players and the team’s three coaches are committed to going, at a cost of $2,100 per person.

Dion Benes: The Professor With a Cardboard Office

Grand Canyon University adjunct faculty member Dion Benes carries his office with him in a 2 x 2 cardboard Kinko’s Box. When he began teaching at GCU about six years ago, adjunct faculty did not have office space. That did not bother Benes a bit. After 26 years in the Marine Corp., he knew exactly what to do.

The Reunion: A Night of Worship and Prayer March 26

Grand Canyon University hosts The Reunion Saturday, March 26 at 6 p.m. on the Student Union Lawn. This event is described as a gathering of young adults, “to celebrate the spirit of unity that God has put in the hearts of the people of Phoenix. The night will include worship, prayer, and various shared visions of students and adults. We hope that through this night bridges would be built and walls would be broken down between the different members of the Family of God.” This event is also a food drive that will benefit Community Hope Outreaches. They will be accepting donations of non-perishable food.
