Reminder: Campus Emergency Texting Services Available

Submitted by on December 19, 2010 – 8:00 am2 Comments

GCU campus-based faculty, staff and students can take advantage of a texting service that will notify you in the event of a campus emergency. The service is free* and subscribers are only notified by text message when there is a security issue and when the issue has been resolved. The service will be especially important in cases in which land phone lines and computers are not available.

While security issues at GCU traditionally have been minimal, the University decided to make the optional service available to provide employees, students and their families with additional peace of mind. This type of service is being used at campuses across the country as an extra precaution. The service will be used only in an emergency and subscribers can be assured that their phone numbers will not be given out or used for any other purpose. *Depending on the cell phone subscriber’s plan for text messaging, the service could be free or cost 10-25 cents per message. There is no monthly fee to subscribe. To subscribe, text “GCU” to 25827. To discontinue the service, text “Stop” to 25827.

For more information, call Public Safety at 639-6231.
